PITTMAN CENTER, AUGUST 25 /SRNA/ - Legendary country singer, songwriter, actress, and philanthropist Dolly Parton died today at the age of 80, her family announced on Instagram.
On Friday, August 21, Parton said that her health had deteriorated following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March last year.
Revered as the queen of country music, Parton had a six-decade career that helped shape American country music, cinema, and pop culture.
She was a multiple Grammy Award winner, and a musical inspired by her life, titled “Dolly,” was also written.
She wrote more than 3,000 songs, including major hits such as “Jolene”, “I Will Always Love You”, “9 to 5” and many others.
