COMMANDER OF HAMAS'S ARMED WING IN GAZA KILLED

JERUSALEM, SEPTEMBER 29 /SRNA-Reuters/ — The commander of Hamas's armed wing in the northern Gaza Strip, Izz al-Din al-Beik, was killed in an Israeli airstrike, officials from both sides announced.

The militant group described him as a leader of the October 7, 2023 attacks on southern Israel, which triggered the war in the Palestinian enclave.

The Israeli government said the military targeted and killed a militant whom it said had been involved in planning the attacks and recruitment.

Medical officials said that, in the early-morning strike, a residential building in the Nasr neighborhood of Gaza City was hit, and that another person later died of injuries sustained in the attack.

Israel, which claims that Hamas is rearming and launching attacks in violation of the ceasefire agreement reached in October, has intensified its attacks on the group in recent weeks.

The Israeli military said that this month it had killed at least 20 Hamas members, including senior commanders, people who took part in the October 7, 2023 attacks, or those who had held Israeli hostages.
