CHINA, FRANCE FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS AND INTERNATIONAL ISSUES

BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot on bilateral relations and international issues, stressing that the two countries should strengthen strategic communication and jointly respond to risks and challenges.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ presidents, China-France relations have generally maintained stable development.

“Faced with a complex and volatile international situation, China and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should strengthen strategic communication and jointly respond to risks and challenges,” Wang said.

Barrot said that in the year since French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to China, France and China have upheld the “Dujiangyan spirit”, which entails engagement and integration, seeking common ground while respecting differences, and maintaining dialogue.

He added that bilateral relations had generally maintained positive momentum during that period, the China Media Group reported.

The two ministers spoke by phone at France’s request.
