CANADIAN AUTHOR ANNE CARSON WINS NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE

STOCKHOLM, OCTOBER 8 /SRNA – Reuters/ - Canadian writer Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature “for her bold and inventive body of work which, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms of contemporary literature,” the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences announced.

“Throughout her career, Anne Carson has combined poetry writing with translation work and teaching at various universities,” the Nobel Prize website said in its citation.

The statement added that “almost all of her literary output is focused on the intersection between a philological obsession with words and the poet’s desire for new meaning.”

“She herself has identified the etymology of words as the starting point for all her work,” the statement added.

The monetary award amounts to 12 million kronor, or around one million euros
