BRITISH TOURIST ARRESTED FOR SPITTING ON TURKISH FLAG

ALANYA, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ – British tourist Stephen Kerr was arrested in the Turkish resort city of Alanya after spitting on the Turkish national flag at a hotel, the DHA news agency reported.

Kerr spat on the Turkish flag displayed in the hotel lobby following a dispute with hotel staff, prompting employees to call the police.

Alanya police detained Kerr /58/.

He was questioned with the assistance of an interpreter and brought before a judge, who ordered him remanded in custody on charges of insulting symbols of state sovereignty.

Kerr was transferred to a prison in Alanya.
