BOEING IDENTIFIES NEW SOFTWARE ISSUE IN 737 MAX

WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 27 /SRNA/ - US aerospace giant Boeing said it had identified a new software problem in the 737 MAX, an aircraft widely used around the world.

The company said the issue could leave pilots without automatic flight guidance in a specific landing scenario following an unsuccessful landing attempt.

Boeing said pilots are trained to handle such situations safely using existing procedures and that engineers are working on a software update to permanently resolve the problem.

It is unclear how many of the more than 2,000 737 MAX aircraft delivered so far are affected, DPA reported.

The 737 MAX is the model that plunged Boeing into the worst crisis in its history after two crashes linked to a software malfunction, in October 2018 and March 2019, killed a total of 346 people.

The aircraft has since faced additional problems, including a January 2024 incident in which part of the fuselage of a nearly new aircraft broke away during takeoff.
