BERLIN, JULY 18 /SRNA–Reuters/ – Germany has raised its national security threat level from "general" to "high" due to a growing number of reports and intelligence indicating possible attacks on institutions, infrastructure and individuals, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said.

"This means that Germany must be prepared for the risk of an attack at any time. Plans for attacks against our country are clearly evident," Dobrindt told the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

Germany has witnessed several attacks in recent years.

A Saudi national was sentenced to life imprisonment last month for killing six people and injuring hundreds after driving a car into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg in 2024.

In another case, a German court last year convicted a Syrian national who killed three people and injured ten others during a festival in Solingen in 2024.

The attacker was said to have been inspired by the ideology of the Islamic State group.
