BRUSSELS, JUNE 18 /SRNA-Reuters/ - German forces are deploying two vessels to the Red Sea for a possible mine-clearing mission in the Strait of Hormuz, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.

“Our minesweeper Fulda and the supply ship Mosel are sailing through the Suez Canal toward the Red Sea,” Pistorius told reporters upon arrival at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

He emphasized that approval from Iran and Oman would be required before any participation in a mine-clearing operation, adding that any mission would also depend on further developments in negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Several hours after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an agreement with Iran to end the war that disrupted global energy supplies, officials from shipping companies and the insurance industry called for the urgent deployment of mine-clearing vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
