AUTOMAKERS URGE CONGRESS TO BAN CHINESE VEHICLES

WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 3 /SRNA-Reuters/ – The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a group representing major automakers, has urged Congress to pass law by the end of the year that would ban Chinese vehicles from entering the US market.

"Chinese automakers are currently deploying subsidized vehicles equipped with related software and hardware around the world. This has not yet happened in the United States, but given the scale and urgency of this threat, we urge you to adopt a ban on Chinese vehicles, software and hardware before the end of this year’s congressional session and enshrine this policy into law," the group’s CEO, John Bozzella, wrote in a letter to Congress.

Bozzella added that the Chinese Communist Party subsidizes certain automakers, enabling them to compete through lower prices in foreign markets and creating unfair competition.

In July, the Senate Commerce Committee approved law that would tighten the government’s restrictions on Chinese automakers entering the US market. However, the law continues to face obstacles on its path to final passage.

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation represents General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, Stellantis and other major automakers.
