AT LEAST 164 DEAD IN EARTHQUAKES

CARACAS, JUNE 25 /SRNA/ - At least 164 people have died in the earthquakes that hit Venezuela, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced.

She said that at least 971 people were injured, the Guardian reported.

The newspaper notes that this is a drastic increase in the toll, after Rodríguez previously stated that 32 people had died and 700 were injured.

Earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale hit Venezuela less than a minute apart, and authorities have declared a state of emergency.
