AT LEAST 11 KILLED IN SUICIDE ATTACK

ISLAMABAD, SEPTEMBER 26 /SRNA/ - A suicide bomber detonated explosives in a vehicle at a police checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least 11 people and wounding around 30, provincial emergency service spokesman Bilal Faizi said.

The attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Local police chief Safdar Baloch said most of those killed and wounded were members of the security forces and bystanders.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, local media reported.

Pakistan has seen a rise in militant attacks in recent years, many of them claimed by the Taliban and the banned Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist group active mainly in neighboring Balochistan province.
