BOAR, August 19 /SRNA-Reuters/ - At least 100 people were killed when a gold mine collapsed in the village of Zamboye in the Central African Republic, a representative of the country's miners' association said.
The prosecutor in the city of Boar, near the border with Cameroon in western Central African Republic, said that many people had been killed and injured in the accident and that a number of people were still missing.
Artisanal mining is an important source of income for people across Africa, but weak regulation and poor safety standards often lead to fatal accidents.
