AROUND 10,000 VICTIMS OF EXTREME HEAT IN EUROPE IN THE SECOND HALF OF JUNE

BRUSSELS, JULY 13 /SRNA/ - At least 10,000 people died as a result of extreme heat in Europe in the second half of June, according to data from the European Mortality Monitoring Network reviewed by a TASS reporter.

The reports state that the number of deaths exceeded 10,000 in the 26th week of this year, and that they involve people of all age groups, and more than 9,000 victims are from the group of people older than 64.

Extremely high excess mortality rates were recorded in Belgium and France, while moderate levels were recorded in Spain, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The lowest high excess mortality rates from heat-related causes were recorded in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.

Temperatures in Western European countries in June repeatedly exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
