NEW YORK, OCTOBER 7 /SRNA/ - Hundreds of ambassadors, senior diplomats and guests attended an event at the UN headquarters in New York marking the third anniversary of the massacre carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023, in southern Israel.

The event, organized by the Israeli Mission to the UN, focused on the story of Eli Cohen and Ziv Aboud, who arrived together at the Nova music festival on October 7 and sought refuge in a roadside bomb shelter near Re'im, which became the scene of the massacre.

Cohen was abducted, taken to Gaza and held captive by Hamas for 505 days, while Aboud survived the massacre. Only after returning from captivity did Cohen learn that Aboud had survived, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon and US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz addressed the gathering.

"Three years later, we stand at the heart of the UN to say one simple thing: October 7 can never be erased, rewritten or forgotten. The pain remains with us, but it has not broken us," Danon said.

Uria Berlin, a reserve sergeant in the Israeli military, recounted her experiences while on duty at the Re'im base on October 7, while singer Idan Raichel performed several of his songs.

Militants killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza in the attacks. More than 74,000 people have been killed in Gaza in Israel's subsequent bombing campaign and ground operations, according to health authorities controlled by Hamas.
