91-YEAR-OLD HIKER THE OLDEST PERSON TO COMPLETE THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL

MILLINOCKET, AUGUST 31 /SRNA/ - American hiker, 91-year-old Dale Sanders, has once again set the world record as the oldest person to hike the 3,530-kilometer-long Appalachian Trail, AP reports.

Sanders, known by his nickname Greybeard, first set the record on the Appalachian Trail, a mountain trail between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine, in 2017 at the age of 82.

Four years later, 83-year-old hiker Meredith Eberhart took the title, which prompted Sanders to return to hiking and attempt to reclaim the record.

He stated that his first crossing was easier than he expected, but that this year's was significantly harder. Despite six months of preparation, he said he was not in the best shape when he returned to the trail.

According to his records, Sanders fell 71 times while reclaiming the record as the oldest hiker to complete the Appalachian Trail.

He had six severe falls, including one that led to a brief hospitalization and another that occurred less than 200 meters from the finish line.
