6-YEAR-OLD CHINESE GIRL SETS RUBIK'S CUBE SPEED RECORD

BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 23 /SRNA/ - Six-year-old Chinese girl Lian Yunjie has set a new women's world record in Rubik's Cube speedsolving, solving a standard 3x3 cube in an average time of just over four seconds.

Lian first broke the record earlier this month, with an average time of 4.52 seconds at a competition sanctioned by the World Cube Association /the international organization for Rubik's Cube speedsolving/ in the city of Wuhan, and then improved her result to 4.27 seconds at a second competition in Guangzhou, CCTV reported on Monday.

According to the report, she became the only female competitor to achieve an average time of under 4.5 seconds.

The television broadcaster reported that Lian first attempted to solve a Rubik's Cube when she was four years old, when it took her 90 seconds. She has mastered more than 1,300 solving algorithms and recently trained for around two to three hours every day.

The report added that her parents took her to Shanghai so that she could train with top-level coaches.
