EDINBURGH, OCTOBER 8 /SRNA/ - Scottish Police Chief Constable Jo Farrell said today that around 50 police officers had been suspended over allegations of violence against women and girls, the BBC reported.
Farrell said she expected more officers to face sanctions over their conduct after several former officers were convicted of various sexual offences.
She said around 8,000 officers were due to be assessed in relation to their roles following regulatory changes introduced earlier this year.
Farrell described the level of violence against women and girls in Scotland as an epidemic.
She said a review was also under way into how the case of police officer Allan Greer had been handled after he was found to have been a serial rapist following his suicide.
Greer was one of three former police officers identified this year as rapists.
