BANJA LUKA, MAY 15 /SRNA/ - The winner of the European Futsal Championship for pupils under 18, held in Banja Luka, is the Republika Srpska team, which defeated Slovakia in the final, while Hungary secured third place.

Representatives of the winning team, coaches and players unanimously said they were proud to have won the championship, noting they had prepared seriously for the victory.

Medals to the champions were awarded by Republika Srpska Minister of Family, Youth and Sports Irena Ignjatović, who congratulated the winners and told reporters that the institution she represents will continue to support school sports with the aim of developing it in international competition.

President of the Republika Srpska School Sports Association Gorica Bilak Moconja stated that Srpska, by successfully hosting the championship, had shown it can be a good host of such and similar international competitions.

The championship was held in the Borik Sports Hall in Banja Luka and brought together more than 250 competitors from 11 countries, including teams from Bulgaria, Belgium, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Montenegro, the Czech Republic and others.

The relevant ministry allocated BAM 200,000 for the event in order to support the development of school sports and the promotion of local athletes on the international stage.
