POLE KUBKOWSKI SWIMS ACROSS THE BALTIC SEA

WARSAW, AUGUST 4 /SRNA/ - Polish open-water swimmer Bartłomiej Kubkowski has swum across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland, covering the 160-kilometre distance in 55 hours.

The extreme feat, known as ultra-Baltic swimming, was carried out for charitable purposes, with Kubkowski raising funds for a cancer-fighting foundation, DPA reported.

Kubkowski, 31, began his swimming challenge on Friday, July 31, from the town of Kåseberga in Sweden.

According to footage recorded by his team on Sunday evening, August 2, he staggered ashore in Dziwnów, Poland, east of Świnoujście, completely exhausted.

Kubkowski battled waves, wind and cold for more than two days and two nights. He did not touch the support boat, come ashore at any point, or take any rest.

The swimmer, nicknamed Robe, was fed food and given drinks by his support team using a pole.

During the second night, Kubkowski experienced occasional hallucinations, his team said in a post on Instagram. However, with his fans' support, he reached his goal.
