MADRID, OCTOBER 13 /SRNA–Reuters/ - Netflix has announced that it has secured the rights to broadcast matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain and Andorra.

The company said this would be the first time Netflix had broadcast a major international sporting event. In Spain, this year's World Cup was broadcast by the national public broadcaster TVE.

Netflix, which is headquartered in California, did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.

Under the deal, one match per day will be available to watch free of charge in Spain, where Netflix will offer a dedicated channel featuring a package of matches, including all games played by the Spanish national team, both semi-finals and the final.

TVE declined to comment on whether it would be interested in purchasing the package.

Spain, which won this year's World Cup in North America, will co-host the 2030 tournament with Portugal and Morocco.

It has been agreed that Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will host the opening matches to mark the tournament's 100th anniversary. Uruguay hosted the first World Cup in 1930.
