FOČA, JUNE 25 /SRNA/ – A four-member 3x3 basketball team from Miljevina, near Foča, achieved a remarkable sporting feat by competing in a prestigious FIBA 3x3 tournament in France, thanks to their dedication, perseverance, love for basketball, and the support of their local community.

Aleksandar Petrović, Srđan Knežević, Miloš Đajić, and Miloš Pavlović proudly represented Miljevina, Foča, Republika Srpska, and BiH at a 3x3 basketball tournament in Palavas-les-Flots near Montpellier, which featured 16 teams from France, Spain, Serbia, and BiH.

The Miljevina team received a special invitation to the FIBA tournament thanks to Davor Davidović, a native of Višegrad and his friend who lives in France.

He recognized the young of Miljevina’s years-long commitment not only to basketball but also to improving the lives of young people through various activities organised by the Miljevina Civic Association, of which they are members.

The captain of the UG Miljevina 3x3 team, Aleksandar Petrović, said they had been participating in tournaments across the region for several years and joined the Republika Srpska league last year, when the idea of traveling to France first emerged.

Many, he says, told them that was mission impossible, but they never lost hope. The biggest challenge was funding for the trip, which they managed with assistance from the Foča City Administration, the University Hospital, and other sponsors.

"The tournament was extremely competitive, the teams were physically much stronger than us. We finished 12th out of 16 teams. Their physical strength ultimately prevailed, but it was a tremendous experience for us," Petrović said.

Although they did not achieve a notable result, participating in a prestigious competition in France and earning FIBA 3x3 ranking points represents a major success for the young men from Miljevina.

Their wish is that their achievement inspires other young people to believe in themselves, embrace the spirit of sport, and pursue new challenges.

"We come from a small place like Miljevina and we made it all the way to France, proving that anything is possible," Petrović emphasized.

The journey itself, covering more than 4,000 kilometers round trip, was a significant undertaking. Team member Srđan Knežević noted that the basketball expedition lasted six days and went smoothly.

"Fantastic experience. As for the competition itself, we simply did not have the quality needed to compete with the French players, who were physically very powerful. We will continue playing in local tournaments and see what the future brings, perhaps we will have the opportunity to compete in another major event," Knežević said.

The Miljevina Civic Association expressed pride in their athletes, stating that by representing Miljevina and Foča internationally, the young basketball players had promoted their hometown with distinction and demonstrated that significant achievements can be accomplished through unity and hard work.
