MILAN, FEBRUARY 7 /SRNA/ – Nordic skiers Strahinja Erić and Teodora Delipara, as well as alpine skier Marko Šljivić from Pale, will have their first performances at the Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo on Tuesday, February 10.
The skiers from Pale are representing the BiH national team, and with them at the world’s biggest sporting event are their coaches - Mladen Plakalović, Dragan Jeftović, and Željko Šljivić.
Erić, for whom these are his second Olympic Games, told SRNA that only now do they feel that everything is truly beginning.
“This is definitely one of the most beautiful moments. I wish every athlete could experience this at least once in their life,” Erić said.
Erić will compete in the sprint and the 10-kilometer race.
The Olympic story for the athletes from Pale is not only a sporting one, but also a story of perseverance, years of work, and belief that even from small slopes one can reach the world stage.
The 2026 Winter Olympic Games were officially opened last night at the "San Siro" stadium in Milan.
Medals will be awarded in 116 events across 16 winter sports, with athletes from 93 countries participating. Ski mountaineering will debut as a new Olympic sport.
Around 2,900 athletes will compete on snow and ice over the next 16 days.
For the first time in history, there were two Olympic flame lightings - one in Milan and another in Cortina d'Ampezzo, as the Games are being held at both locations.
This is the third time Italy is hosting the Winter Olympics and the fourth time it is hosting the Olympic Games overall.
