TREBINJE, JUNE 28 /SRNA/ – Firefighters battled a major wildfire throughout the night in the Poljice–Sedlari–Grmljani area, where the fire front stretched for about five kilometres, Trebinje Fire Department Commander Dejan Kašiković said, appealing to residents of the threatened villages to immediately join efforts to protect their homes and property.
Kašiković said the night had been extremely difficult and exhausting, but that thanks to the extraordinary efforts of members of the Trebinje Territorial Fire and Rescue Unit, they had succeeded in protecting all buildings in the three villages, as well as the main road.
According to him, the intensity of the wildfire increased sharply in the Upper Grmljani area during the morning hours, prompting the immediate deployment of all available personnel to prevent the flames from spreading further.
The commander warned that the situation remained extremely serious and unpredictable, urging all owners of homes and property in the affected area to come without delay and help defend their property.
At the same time, he asked everyone connected to the villages of Poljice, Sedlari and Grmljani not to call him or inquire by phone about the situation on the ground, stressing that every minute is crucial.
"If you want to help, come to the scene and stand alongside the firefighters. We need people," Kašiković said, adding that firefighters would do everything in their power to save every home, every village and every human life.
