BANJA LUKA, MARCH 28 /SRNA/ - The director of Hydropower Plants on Vrbas Goran Milanović told SRNA that this facility is doing everything possible to mitigate flood risks downstream of the Bočac Hydropower Plant /HPP/.

He emphasized that torrential waters and the tributaries of the Vrbas River, located below their dams, currently pose a danger.

Milanović said that the Bočac HPP is currently operating at a slightly lower capacity for this reason, and that all decisions are made in coordination with the relevant institutions, including representatives of hydropower plants located on the Vrbas River in the Federation of BiH.

"Our reservoirs are relatively small when considering the capacity and tension, or the slowdown of the flood wave. For example, we currently have around 370 cubic meters of water flowing in, while we are constantly releasing 230 cubic meters for energy production. Our maximum and installed capacity is 240 cubic meters. Therefore, the Vrbas upstream of the Bočac HPP is not a problem," said Milanović.

He emphasized that Hydropower Plants on Vrbas will continue to monitor the situation on the ground to ensure that "there is no overlap of the Vrbas and Vrbanja flood waves downstream."

Milanović says that Hydropower Plants on Vrbas are holding back water to allow the Vrbanja River to flow and prevent overlap.

He also revealed that the current special problem is the Ugar River, which has a high water level, with more than 200 cubic meters of water currently flowing in from it.
