NOVI GRAD, MARCH 29 /SRNA/ - Today, the water levels of the Una and Sana rivers are mostly stagnant in the area of Novi Grad, and the problem in several locations is caused by groundwater.

The mayor of the municipality, Miroslav Drljača, said after the session of the Emergency Situations Staff that the water level did not change significantly during the day.

"Unlike yesterday, today we had a situation where underground water broke out in several locations," he said.

Drljača says that the most threatened area is near the "St. Sava" Elementary School, where water has been pumped out of the yard since last night.

"During the night, we added a second pump, today a third one, but all that is not enough. We contacted the Republican Administration of Civil Protection and asked for a strong pump to solve this problem," he pointed out.

According to him, groundwater also broke out in the Mlakve neighborhood near the Sloboda FC stadium.

"In the settlement of Mlakve yesterday, we used machinery to build embankments in order to prevent the Una from coming out," said Drljača.

He says that the underground waters also broke out in the Radišića ditch.

"We expect that the water level will drop, as is already the case upstream. In the coming days, we expect that the problem will be underground water. The problem is that the road to the city's garbage dump is impassable. In addition, due to the overflow of water on the main road to Prijedor, the Health Center cannot transport patients by ambulance to Prijedor and Banja Luka health facilities, and a solution must be found there," Drljača said.

He said there was no room for panic and called on citizens whose buildings were flooded to report the damage to 121.

The water level of the Una River in Novi Grad is 525 centimeters, which is two centimeters less than noon.

The water level of the Sana River is 558 centimeters and has not changed since this morning.
