TRIBUTE TO THE VICTIMS OF CRIME COMMITTED IN RIT LOCAL COMMUNITY PAID

BROD, MARCH 25 /SRNA/ - Today, a memorial service was held in Brod for the members of the Dujanić and Martić families, victims of the crimes committed by the Croatian armed forces that took place today in 1992, which preceded the suffering of Serbs in Sijekovac.

A memorial service was also held for the fallen Serb soldiers next to the memorial in the local community of Rit, where wreaths were then laid.

The Chair of the Presidency of the Municipal War Veterans Organisation, Zoran Vidić, recalled that the first crimes against the Serb people in BiH took place in the area of Brod, a municipality in the north of Republika Srpska that was the first to be attacked.

He emphasized that the 244 fallen soldiers from the area of the Brod municipality must never be forgotten, as well as all those who gave their lives for Republika Srpska.

Vidić mentioned that Republika Srpska was created thanks to the unity of Serbs, which is still important for its survival nowadays.

He has called on all those present to the commemoration of 33rd anniversary since the suffering of Serb civilians in Sijekovac, which will take place tomorrow.

The mayor of the municipality, Milan Zečević, says Brod is a municipality that suffered a lot, which was completely destroyed during the Deffensive-Patriotic War.

"I believe the Serb people feel great pain on this day because we can say that it is both the official and unofficial beginning of the war in BiH, which opened the door to a great suffering of the Serbs," said Zečević.

On behalf of the Municipal Administration, he thanked the War Veterans Organisation and the residents who have been coming for years and paying tribute to the veterans and victims with their presence.

On this day in 1992, members of the Croatian armed forces brutally killed members of the Martić and Dujanić families in the local community of Rit.

During the war in 1992, 12 people of the area of Rit Local Community were killed.
