THE HAGUE JUDGES WANTED GENERAL MLADIĆ TO END HIS LIFE IN DUNGEON

BANJA LUKA, AUGUST 27 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Justice Minister Goran Selak said that the judges in The Hague wanted General Ratko Mladić to end his life in a dungeon.

Selak expressed his condolences over the general’s death, but also regretted that there had been no understanding in The Hague to allow him to receive adequate medical treatment.

“The Mechanism ignored the recommendations of medical professionals and must assume responsibility for such conduct,” Selak told RTRS.

Selak reminded that the Republika Srpska Government had issued a humanitarian appeal to the Hague institutions in coordination with Serbia, and had pointed to the inhumane treatment of the general, but there was no understanding.

“We know that certain experts engaged by the Mechanism determined that the general’s health had deteriorated and that he was spending the final days of his life, but the judges wanted the general to end his life in a dungeon,” Selak told RTRS.

He noted that the Ministry of Justice and the Government had provided guarantees for the general to receive treatment here, but their requests were not met. He added that he too, as Minister of Justice, had been denied permission to visit him.
