STORY OF NATIONAL HERO LEPA RADIĆ REACHES INDIA

GRADIŠKA, SEPTEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - Researcher and writer Satish Solanki from New Delhi has launched an initiative with India’s state leadership to preserve the memory of national hero Lepa Radić, and his work has also been included in a monograph about the heroine.

Solanki, who has spent years studying and promoting world cultural heritage and prominent historical figures, came across Lepa Radić's biography while researching historical information on the internet.

Deeply moved by her suffering and fearlessness, he launched a series of activities aimed at preserving the memory of the young Partisan, the Lepa Radić Cultural and Artistic Society /KUD/ from Gradiška said.

In official letters to Indian state institutions, he proposed concrete steps to recognize her achievement in the Asian country, including proposals to include a lesson about Radić in school textbooks throughout India and to name a street, bridge, airport or university department after the heroine.

Solanki has also launched an initiative to produce a documentary and a feature film about Lepa Radić in Hindi, as well as organize school essay-writing competitions and present annual memorial awards.

Of particular interest is the fact that Solanki translated texts about Lepa Radić and her final words not only into English and Hindi, but also into the ancient Indian Brahmi script, the statement said.

Through years of cooperation and contact with representatives of the KUD, this enthusiast established a direct connection with the local community, while the culmination of that cooperation was the inclusion of Solanki’s original text and illustration in the official monograph "Heroine Lepa Radić".

"This unusual international story once again proves that universal values of the struggle for freedom and dignity bring peoples together regardless of distance, and that the memory of Lepa Radić continues to live on and inspire people around the world," the statement said.
