ZVORNIK, MARCH 6 /SRNA/ - Spomenka Stevanović told SRNA that she has left DEMOS and resigned from all party positions, emphasizing that she will continue her political activities in Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, which she considers programmatically, politically, and personally closest to her.
She stressed that changing parties will not change her beliefs or her way of working, adding that her work will be even more visible in the future, because a large party offers greater opportunities for political action aimed at strengthening Republika Srpska and improving the lives of its citizens, which she said is the true purpose of engaging in politics.
"SNSD is definitely the most powerful and best-organized party, not only in Republika Srpska but also in BiH. It is a party that allows every member to express their political beliefs," Stevanović said.
She noted that the decision to leave DEMOS was one of the most difficult in her political career, and added that she does not blame party president Nedeljko Čubrilović or the party leadership for anything, except for the fact that problems were not addressed in a timely and adequate manner.
"We entered a state of political lethargy and defensiveness, which is the worst possible situation both in politics and in life," Stevanović said.
According to her, she thought for a long time about what to do next, spoke with long-time party colleagues and friends, and ultimately realized that she could not influence the situation within DEMOS.
"I decided to leave the party and give space to others who may handle the evident problems better," Stevanović stated.
She also recalled that in 2018 she did not leave the Democratic People's Alliance voluntarily, but was expelled together with Čubrilović and several other party officials due to differing views regarding the functioning of the party.
Emphasizing that they later founded DEMOS together, Stevanović said the new party had been built with a lot of effort, will, and enthusiasm, which was reflected in the election results in subsequent general and local elections.
Stevanović added that internal party problems in DEMOS began shortly after the general elections held in 2022 and culminated after the local elections in 2024.
