ŠOBOT: UCC AND TREBINJE HOSPITAL ANNOUNCE HOUSING PROJECT FOR YOUNG MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

TREBINJE, SEPTEMBER 20 /SRNA/ - The Republika Srpska University Clinical Center /UCC/ and the "St. Archdeacon Stefan - January 9" Hospital in Trebinje will deepen cooperation in neurosurgery and orthopedics, work on developing cardiology services and pursue a housing project for young doctors in both Banja Luka and Trebinje, UCC Director Nikola Šobot said.

Following a meeting with Trebinje Hospital Director Nedeljko Lambeta, Šobot said the interventional cardiology suite was functioning extremely well and that a series of procedures had already been performed thanks to this form of cooperation.

As for cardiac surgery, Šobot said it was a major and demanding project that would take time and should not be rushed.

"We will certainly decide when and how to proceed, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us before we reach that stage," Šobot told reporters in Trebinje.

Speaking about housing for medical staff, he said cooperation between the two health institutions had produced ideas that could benefit the Republika Srpska health system more broadly.

"On that basis, we developed a joint project that will be implemented in both Trebinje and Banja Luka and will involve the construction of facilities and housing for shortage occupations, young married couples and young doctors, with the participation of the Trebinje hospital and UCC," Šobot said.

He stressed that efforts would be made to provide housing units for medical professionals in short supply and for young doctors needed by society and Republika Srpska.

According to Šobot, the project demonstrates the two institutions' commitment to the overall health-care system of Republika Srpska.

Šobot also announced the opening of 550 new parking spaces in the UCC garage, adding that this should help reduce congestion around the hospital in Banja Luka.
