BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 28 /SRNA/ – Former Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nedeljko Čubrilović, has told SRNA that the adoption of the Constitution of Republika Srpska 34 years ago was the result of the vision of the people's representatives, and added that attention given to that date should increase year by year, with clear messages.
Čubrilović said that the significance of adopting the Constitution becomes clearer over time, not only for Republika Srpska but also for the survival of Serbs in this region.
He noted that Republika Srpska was created, and later defended, under difficult conditions, and that no one has the right to play with its fate.
"No one should play with what the lives of the best sons of the Republic have been invested in," Čubrilović said. He is also the president of DEMOS.
He congratulated all residents of Republika Srpska on Constitution Day.
The Assembly of the Serb People of BiH adopted the Constitution on February 28 1992, which was unanimously approved on the foundations of the founding Declaration and guaranteed full equality and equal rights of the peoples and citizens of the Republic.
The highest legal act of Republika Srpska, which remains in force today with certain amendments, was adopted before the outbreak of the tragic conflicts and the unilateral declaration of independence by Bosniaks and Croats following the referendum held on 1 March, in which Serbs did not participate.
