BANJA LUKA, May 15 /SRNA/ – Alen Šeranić, Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska, stated that no cases of the Andes strain of hantavirus have been registered in Republika Srpska and that the risk of its appearance remains low.

"From an epidemiological standpoint, it could be imported and recorded here as such," Šeranić told the press in Banja Luka.

He added that this is possible because the virus has a relatively long incubation period and there are already cases that are asymptomatic.

"However, the risk of the virus appearing here is extremely low, because those who were on cruise ships are being strictly monitored epidemiologically in the countries where they are staying," Šeranić explained.

He expressed hope that there would not be a single registered case in Republika Srpska.
