EAST SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ - Unity is the greatest strength of the Serbian people, who must remain united under one flag, and an example of this is the former Serb Sarajevo, which during the Defensive-Patriotic War proved to be a bastion of national unity, Deputy President of the Presidency of the Veterans' Organization of Republika Srpska Goran Šehovac told SRNA.
On the occasion of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and the National Flag, Šehovac emphasized that the Veterans' Organization, since its founding, has been based on the principles of national unity and demonstrated the strength of solidarity in the most difficult moments.
"Serb Sarajevo is a bastion of national unity. In the Defensive-Patriotic War, Serbs rose in defense of their property, families, and people, and that was when true unity was shown, a unity that we must nurture today as well," Šehovac stressed.
He said that Serbs must not forget the sufferings of the past, but should raise their children without hatred, with awareness of national identity and solidarity.
"From Serb Sarajevo, which in the war was a kind of Stalingrad, I call for great national unity in Republika Srpska, Serbia, and the entire region," Šehovac declared.
The governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia decided to jointly celebrate the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom, and the National Flag on September 15.
This holiday was established in 2020 with the aim of strengthening the unity of the Serbian people in Serbia and Srpska, as well as reinforcing the cult of the national flag. It is observed in remembrance of the breakthrough of the Salonika Front in World War I.
