BANJA LUKA, APRIL 8 /SRNA/ – Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Banja Luka Nina Sajić told SRNA that the effects of Donald Trump Jr.'s visit to Republika Srpska will become visible in the coming period, adding that it also sends a message to Bosniak politicians that BiH cannot be presented to the world through a Sarajevo-centered narrative.
She stressed that, on the internal level, the visit sends an important message to Bosniak political structures that BiH cannot be represented internationally solely through a Bosniak, Sarajevo-based perspective, and that Republika Srpska will have a seat at the table when discussing not only its own future and development, but also relations within BiH.
"It creates strategic room for maneuver, strengthening our internal capacities in future discussions concerning BiH and the region," Sajić said.
She noted that, in political terms, the visit confirms that Republika Srpska is an important actor not only within BiH, but also in international relations, and that it has the capacity to engage in direct communication with major global powers.
Sajić added that, in economic terms, more concrete projects from the United States can be expected.
She reminded that negotiations are underway regarding a gas interconnection, and that other investments in Republika Srpska can also be expected, noting that the entity has so far been outside the economic radar of US companies, but that this visit opens new opportunities.
She also noted that yesterday's visit by Trump Jr. was covered by numerous international media crews from outside BiH, which assessed it as an important political signal of a shift in US policy toward BiH.
