ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 16 /SRNA/ – Rogatica Potato and Romanija Kajmak Days will be held tomorrow at Serbia square in Istočno Novo Sarajevo, where secondary school students will prepare traditional dishes featuring potatoes and kajmak, a creamy dairy product.
Jelena Mićić, head of the regional office of the relevant ministry in Istočno Sarajevo, told SRNA that around 30 producers of Rogatica potatoes were expected to attend, along with women from the Romanija Kajmak Association and members of the Women Gacko Kajmak Producers Association from Gacko.
"We expect more exhibitors this year," Mićić said.
She highlighted the quality of traditional products bearing a geographical indication label, adding that the fair provided an opportunity to help producers build stronger business links and gain better access to the market.
"We help producers secure better prices while enabling local residents to buy these products," Mićić stressed.
She added that, as in previous years, students from secondary schools in Istočno Novo Sarajevo and Rogatica would prepare traditional dishes.
The fair is being organized by the agricultural advisory services department of the Republika Srpska Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the “Srp” cluster.
Mićić explained that events such as Rogatica Potato and Romanija Kajmak Days in Istočno Sarajevo provided an opportunity for producers to exchange experience and knowledge, promote a positive image of the Sarajevo-Romanija region and showcase agriculture in the Romanija area.
Rogatica potato production has enormous potential, with the crop grown on 300 hectares.
Yields have fallen this year due to drought, averaging 15 to 17 tons per hectare, compared with around 25 to 30 tons per hectare last year.
