BANJA LUKA, AUGUST 20 /SRNA/ - Republika Srpska Justice Minister Goran Selak announced that Serbian Justice Minister Nenad Vujić would submit a new request to Graciela Gatti Santana, President of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, for General Ratko Mladić to be allowed to receive treatment in Serbia or Republika Srpska, given his extremely serious health condition.

Selak said that Vujić had informed him that General Mladić's health was extremely serious, with a very poor prognosis, and that treatment currently consists primarily of pain management.

"All humanitarian considerations support granting this request," Selak said, expressing his full support for the initiative and the appeal for it to be approved without delay.

He reminded that the Republika Srpska Government had previously requested that Mladić be transferred to Serbia or Republika Srpska for medical treatment and had expressed its readiness to provide all necessary guarantees to the Mechanism, but the request was not granted.

Selak said that the time had come for humanitarian considerations to prevail and for General Mladić to be allowed to receive treatment in Serbia or Republika Srpska, the Ministry of Justice said.

"General Ratko Mladić should be provided with appropriate medical and palliative care and, above all, be allowed to be with his family," Selak said.

General Mladić has been in the detention unit of a hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he is receiving palliative care.

The Mechanism has repeatedly rejected requests for him to be granted temporary release for medical treatment in Serbia.
