BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 24 /SRNA/ - The Constitution of Republika Srpska is a symbol of resilience, identity, and the political will of a people who have endured for centuries despite numerous challenges, Bogoljub Zeljković, an SNSD official, told SRNA.
"Republika Srpska has existed for several decades, but the people who created it have existed for more than a millennium. That is precisely why the Constitution of Republika Srpska is far more than a collection of articles and legal norms," Zeljković said.
He emphasized that the Constitution of Republika Srpska is not merely a legal document of a single institution or a single era, but represents the culmination of the thousand-year existence of the Serb people in these lands.
"The history of our endurance is gathered in it, as well as a covenant to the future that obliges all of us to preserve what generations before us created and defended," Zeljković said.
According to him, respect for the Constitution of Republika Srpska means respect for history and responsibility toward the future.
"It is up to us to safeguard it as the foundation of freedom, political stability, and the right of the Serb people to live, decide, and endure in peace and dignity in these lands," Zeljković said.
The Assembly of the Serbian People of BiH adopted the Constitution on February 28, 1992. It was adopted unanimously, based on the Declaration of Establishment, ensuring full equality and equal rights for all peoples and citizens of the Republic.
The highest legal act of Republika Srpska, which, with certain amendments, remains in force today, was adopted before the outbreak of the tragic conflicts and before the unilateral declaration of independence of BiH by Bosniaks and Croats following the March 1 referendum, in which Serbs did not participate.
