REFERENDUM MAY BE POSTPONED IF ALL CONDITIONS ARE NOT MET WITHIN REASONABLE TIMEFRAME

BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 30 /SRNA/ - The Head of the SNSD Caucus in the Republika Srpska National Assembly Srđan Mazalica told SRNA that due to objective circumstances, such as a Bosniak veto and deliberation by the Constitutional Court, the referendum scheduled for October 25 could be postponed.

Mazalica stressed that this may happen if all the conditions for holding the referendum are not met within a reasonable timeframe, noting that, in that case, the vote could be organized on November 23, the same day as the early elections for the President of Republika Srpska.

"Significant savings could be achieved in this way if electoral committees don't have to be organized and paid separately, in other words, if those already engaged in the early elections could be used. In that case, only an additional ballot box would need to be provided," Mazalica said.

He added that it remains to be seen how this could be legally regulated.

"The referendum is important for Republika Srpska, and the position that citizens may express on Christian Schmidt, the colonial administration, the Court, and the Central Election Commission could serve as a starting point for the future positions of the National Assembly, as well as for other referendums," Mazalica said.
