RADIVOJAC URGES PUBLIC TO SEE ZAFRANOVIĆ'S NEW FILM ON SERB SUFFERING

BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 30 /SRNA/ - Ninety-six-year-old Jasenovac camp survivor Rade Radivojac said he would watch Lordan Zafranović's new film "Golden Cut 42 - Children of Kozara", stressing that it was extremely important for Serbs and the wider public to learn about the unprecedented suffering of Serb children and the Serb people in the Ustasha-run Jasenovac concentration camp.

Radivojac said he knew better than most what happened in the notorious Ustasha concentration camp of Jasenovac during World War II.

"I would like as many of our people as possible to see this film, and for what happened to us never to happen again, either to us or to any other people", Radivojac told SRNA.

The Jasenovac survivor regularly attends the commemoration in Donja Gradina marking the Day of Remembrance for the victims of Ustasha crimes and genocide in the NDH at the Jasenovac concentration camp.

He was born in Donji Orlovci near Prijedor, where occupying forces killed his parents in 1941.

As a boy, he was taken to the Jasenovac camp, from which he managed to escape. In 1943, together with a large number of wounded people, he was sent to Italy to recover.

A documentary about Radivojac's ordeal in Jasenovac, titled Voluntarily Died, was made earlier.

"Golden Cut 42 - Children of Kozara", which deals with the suffering of the people of Kozara in the Jasenovac camp, tells the story of Serbs from Kozara during World War II, focusing on children who were separated from their parents during the 1942 offensive and deported to camps and other locations in the then NDH.

The film will be screened in Banja Luka on Saturday, October 3, while its production was supported by institutions of Republika Srpska and Serbia. The Belgrade premiere is scheduled for the previous day.

Lordan Zafranović was born in 1944 in Maslinica on the island of Šolta. He has made more than 80 documentary and feature films, including Blood and Ashes of Jasenovac, Occupation in 26 Pictures, The Fall of Italy and the recently completed Golden Cut 42 - Children of Kozara.
