PETAR KOČIĆ INSTILLED FREEDOM INTO GENETIC MAKEUP OF SERBIAN PEOPLE

BANJA LUKA, AUGUST 27 /SRNA/ - When opening the 61st Kočić Assembly, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Savo Minić said that Petar Kočić, as a politician in his own right, indirectly instilled freedom into the genetic makeup of the Serbian people.

“Petar Kočić wrote from the heart about what represents the genesis and aspiration of the Serbian people, and that is freedom. That is all we need: our freedom, nothing that belongs to others,” Minić said in an address at the National and University Library of Republika Srpska.

According to him, through their faith and tradition, as well as good relations with others, the Serbian people preserve their history.

Minić said this year’s Kočić Assembly had been enhanced in terms of its program and content, noting that it was all imbued with a spirit of freedom.

“Everything Petar Kočić did, and his ideas expressed through short stories and dramatic works, served, and can still serve today, as a means of conveying the spirit of freedom,” Minić said.

He added that his works encapsulate the sentiment to which the Serbian people aspire: not to be oppressed, but to be free.

“That is something that has cost countless lives throughout history, and that is why this 61st Kočić Assembly has been opened in honour of Petar Kočić, his freedom-loving thoughts and ideas, and his outstanding literary works,” Minić said.

He stressed that neither Kočić nor any other great Serbian figure had ever advocated anything that did not belong to us.
