OSTOJIĆ: SECOND DETACHMENT FOLLOWED PATH OF HEROES

ŠEKOVIĆI, MARCH 15 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Labor and Veteran's and Disability Protection of Republika Srpska Radan Ostojić has stated today in Šekovići that the path of the Second Detachment of the Special Police Brigade of the Republika Srpska Interior Ministry and the Tenth Reconnaissance-Sabotage Detachment was the path of true heroes.

Speaking at the marking of the 33rd anniversary of the founding of the Second Detachment of the Special Police Brigade, Ostojić reminded of its immeasurable contribution during the Defensive-Homeland War, noting that the detachment fought on all battlefields defending the Serb people.

"To be here today and bow to the memory of those who gave their lives for freedom in the Defensive-Homeland War, as well as to a hero such as Mišo Pelemiš, is a great honor and obligation. Their path was one of suffering and sacrifice, but also a path of unity on which Republika Srpska was resurrected. We have gathered to remember our comrades who have gone into eternity," Ostojić said.

He told reporters that younger generations must know everything about the struggle of their fathers and grandfathers for freedom and ancestral homes, as well as about the genocide that befell the Serbian people in World War II.

"If they do not learn what has happened from Kosovo Field to the present day, they will not know how to value peace. Peace is imperative, but there is no peace for Serbs without freedom," Ostojić stressed.

Commander of the Second Special Police Detachment in Šekovići Miloš Stupar said the unit was engaged on numerous battlefields and emerged victorious from every battle.

"There were difficult moments. The hardest were when we had to return to retrieve a fallen comrade. We had one principle given to us by our then commander Mišo Pelemiš - that the fallen and the wounded are never left behind, even at the cost of further injuries and deaths. And that rule was always respected," Stupar emphasized.

He reminded that 21 members of the detachment gave their lives defending Republika Srpska and that there were hundreds of injuries.

In Šekovići today, the Day of the Second Detachment was marked and a memorial bust was unveiled to the legendary commander Mišo Pelemiš, with a message that the sacrifice of Serb fighters and the creation of Republika Srpska are the foundations of freedom that must be passed on to future generations.
