PALE, OCTOBER 1 /SRNA/ - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Staša Košarac, together with the resident representative of the UN Development Program /UNDP/ in BiH Renaud Meyer, visited the Pale Secondary School Center, where a BAM 305,000 project is underway which involves the construction of a new boiler room and the installation of two pellet boilers for the school.

Košarac explained that the energy efficiency program at the Pale Secondary School Center is one of four such projects being implemented in the City of Istočno Sarajevo.

"The Municipality of Pale is strategically important for Republika Srpska. We appreciate the contributions of the municipality, the City of Istočno Sarajevo, and the institutions of Republika Srpska. Institutions at the BiH level should also contribute as the focal point in the Green Climate Fund," Košarac told reporters after the meeting.

He emphasized that the construction of the new boiler room and the installation of two pellet boilers will greatly benefit the students of the Secondary School Center, and thanked the UNDP, as the implementing agency, for its high level of understanding and cooperation.

He pointed out that there had been a delay and expressed hope that the contractor would soon begin work.

"We still have a lot to do in other municipalities. Of course, we also discussed the continuation of the project in Pale, which involves the façade and insulation of the Secondary School Center," Košarac said.

He emphasized the necessity of fulfilling obligations under the decarbonization process, namely, implementing the Paris and Sofia Agreements, which call for reducing coal-based heating to the minimum possible level to protect the environment.

Košarac also referred to a project involving the use of renewable electricity for the Bubamara kindergarten in Pale, noting that an installed capacity of 24 kW will be sufficient for the kindergarten’s needs.

"In addition, we are working on a waste management strategy for several municipalities in the City of Istočno Sarajevo - Istočni Stari Grad, Pale, and Sokolac, with the possibility of expanding it to the Upper Podrinje region. We believe additional efforts are needed to protect the environment," said Košarac, who is also the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers.

As an important project, Košarac also mentioned "The Impact of Climate Change on the Length of the Winter Tourism Season," considering the business opportunities offered by Jahorina.

"For this reason, we, together with the project implementer, have started the process of procuring a meteorological station to carry out measurements and monitoring, thereby extending opportunities for citizens to secure their business benefits by operating on Mount Jahorina throughout both the summer and winter tourist seasons," Košarac said.
