NEW EQUIPMENT AT RADIOTHERAPY CENTRE TREATING ABOUT 2,300 ONCOLOGY PATIENTS

BANJA LUKA, DECEMBER 20 /SRNA/ – Around 2,300 oncology patients are treated annually at the Radiotherapy Centre within the University Clinical Center /UCC/ of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka, so in order to ensure access to modern medical technology, equipment worth BAM 10 million has been procured.

With the acquisition of a new linear accelerator, the process of complete modernization and renewal of medical technology at IMC Banja Luka has been completed.

Radiation therapy at this centre is now performed using TrueBeam medical three linear accelerators manufactured by Varian /USA/).

In addition, a modern Bravos brachytherapy device has been procured, all software systems have been fully upgraded, and the bunker housing the new linear accelerator has been renovated.

The total value of the investment, which includes the purchase of the linear accelerator, brachytherapy device, application software and hardware, renovation of the facilities, customs costs, and VAT amounts to up to BAM 10 million.

All treatment costs for oncology patients, including therapy, accommodation, hospitalization, transportation, and meals, are fully covered by the Republika Srpska Health Insurance Fund with no waiting lists.

An annex to the contract with the Republika Srpska Government stipulates that AFFidea/IMC Banja Luka will continue to provide radiation oncology services for the next ten years.
