NEW DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IN PREPARATION, PRIORITIES ARE RECONSTRUCTION OF WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM AND MAIN STREET

VIŠEGRAD, JULY 20 /SRNA/ – The municipality of Višegrad has begun drafting a new development strategy for the period from 2027 to 2033, in which the priority will be capital infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the main city street and the transport pipeline from Dobrun to Stražište.

The new development strategy will be drafted with the technical support of the UNDP, after the municipality was selected in a public call for the allocation of this type of support, it was stated at a meeting between the Municipal Mayor, Mladen Đurević, and the heads of the relevant municipal departments.

The Head of the Department for Economy and Social Activities, Jovanka Knežević, said that preparatory activities are underway and that the adoption of the strategy is expected by the end of the year.

"We are working on the document with the expert technical support of the UNDP, and it will define the most important developmental and capital projects of the municipality for the next seven-year period," stated Knežević.

She emphasized that among the priorities are the reconstruction of the main and side streets, the reconstruction of the transport water supply pipeline from Dobrun to Stražište, as well as the exploration of geothermal sources.

The Head of the Department for Spatial Planning and Housing-Communal Affairs, Dejan Krsmanović, said that the reconstruction of the transport pipeline is one of the most significant projects envisaged by the strategy.

"Višegrad is supplied with water from Dobrun via a transport pipeline whose pipes are located in the bed of the Rzav River. In previous years, especially during the winter, pipes would freeze and burst, which caused water supply problems. The project plans to relocate the route or completely replace the dilapidated pipes," Krsmanović said.

Speaking about the reconstruction of the main street, Krsmanović stated that the project documentation has already been prepared and that the works will begin once financial resources are secured.

The development strategy of the municipality of Višegrad for the period from 2027 to 2033 should be adopted at the session of the Municipal Assembly by the end of 2026.
