BANJA LUKA, JUNE 6 /SRNA/ – Jasenovac Victims Street now exists in 31 local communities across Republika Srpska, while the naming procedure is currently underway in six more municipalities, Minister of Administration and Local Self-Government Senka Jujić told SRNA.
"The procedure for naming a street after the victims of Jasenovac is currently underway in Istočni Mostar, Kalinovik, Modriča, Mrkonjić Grad, Stanari and Šamac," Jujić said.
She recalled that seven local government units already had streets bearing this name, making additional naming unnecessary. These are Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Gradiška, Laktaši, Prijedor, Teslić and Ugljevik.
Jujić said that streets bearing this name have since been established in Bileća, Bratunac, Brod, Višegrad, Vlasenica, Vukosavlje, Derventa, Donji Žabar, Zvornik, Istočna Ilidža, Kozarska Dubica, Kostajnica, Milići, Nevesinje, Novi Grad, Oštra Luka, Pale, Pelagićevo, Prnjavor, Rudo, Srbac, Trebinje, Trnovo and Foča.
According to her, some local government units are currently unable to fully implement the initiative due to spatial and technical reasons.
"These local communities have informed the Ministry about the situation, while a number of them are in the process of finding suitable solutions in order to fulfill the obligation they have assumed," Jujić said.
She recalled that the Government of Republika Srpska tasked the Ministry of Administration and Local Self-Government, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the breakout of the last group of Jasenovac concentration camp inmates, with requesting that all local self-government units designate a street named "Jasenovac Victims Street" within their communities.
