MITROVIĆ: HPPT IS THE LARGEST PRODUCER OF ELECTRICITY

TREBINJE, JULY 16 /SRNA/ - Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Trebišnjica /HPPT/ is currently the largest producer of electricity in Republika Srpska. Since the beginning of the year, it has produced 690 gigawatt-hours of energy, which is 66 gigawatt-hours more than the cumulative plan, Milan Mitrović, the Executive Director for System Management at the company, told SRNA.

Mitrović stated that 880 liters of rain per square meter fell in the Trebišnjica river basin this year, and the favorable hydrology in January and February was utilized to the maximum. As a result, the maximum elevation of the Bileća hydro-accumulation for the current year was reached on February 25, which positively impacted production.

Speaking about the current hydrology, he noted that March, April, May, and June were far below expectations, representing a series of four extremely dry months compared to the multi-decade average.

"Managing the system is challenging, considering that in recent years we have experienced extreme phenomena-namely, large amounts of precipitation in a short period at certain times, as well as dry periods that can last up to six months. Therefore, we must make the best possible decisions in the interest of the company to overcome these extreme situations," Mitrović said.

He noted that this year's achieved production is 10.5 percent higher than the cumulative plan, while 64 percent of the overall plan for this year has already been achieved.

"Regarding the fulfillment of the electricity production plan for this year, HPPT is on a good track to achieve it, given the results so far and the water reserves in the Bileća hydro-accumulation. When we add these two values, we arrive at the data that HET is at 85 percent of its target for this year, and we believe that autumn precipitation will help us achieve our production goals for the year," Mitrović stated.

According to him, the elevation of the Bileća hydro-accumulation currently stands at 371 meters above sea level, which is ten meters below the plan. However, the achieved production provides a strong basis to conclude that HET will fulfill its production plans and final business results for this year.

Mitrović emphasized that HPPT significantly contributes to the stability of the overall power system. Currently, due to the system's needs, the Čapljina Hydroelectric Power Plant is also engaged, which is why the water flow through the city is slightly higher.

"The regulated discharge of water from the Trebinje 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant will continue until July 19 at 8:00 PM, in accordance with the agreement signed by the parent company Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske, HPPT, and Elektroprivreda Hrvatske zajednice Herceg-Bosne," Mitrović concluded.
