BANJA LUKA, APRIL 15 /SRNA/ – Legal expert Ljubinko Mitrović told SRNA that European prison rules and all international documents, primarily the UN Convention against torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, must be respected when it comes to any convicted persons, including General Ratko Mladić, who is in very serious health condition.
Mitrović says it is unjust for a prison institution to treat a convicted person in a way that does not ensure healthcare and other fundamental rights.
"It is unjust to humiliate, mistreat, place a prisoner in solitary confinement, or fail to provide healthcare. It is unjust not to ensure all basic rights," said Mitrović, who is also a former Human Rights Ombudsman of BiH.
General Ratko Mladić suffered a mild stroke and is now in a very serious condition, his son Darko Mladić told SRNA today.
He says he expects to receive documentation from the tribunal's medical service in The Hague to determine exactly what happened on Friday, April 10.
General Mladić has suffered multiple strokes and has serious cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, neurological damage, as well as kidney problems.
