BANJA LUKA, December 17 /SRNA/ - Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Savo Minić said that there is an obligation toward the citizens to resolve the air pollution problem in Banja Luka, but stressed that this must not be approached irrationally, rather in a systemic manner.
"We have obligations toward the citizens of Banja Luka to address the pollution problem. We have spoken with experts. The city faces traffic congestion and several thousand vehicles operating at the same time. A systemic solution is needed, and we stand ready to help" Minić said at a press conference in Banja Luka marking the presentation of 100 days of work.
He noted that he had previously discussed the issue with Banja Luka Mayor Draško Stanivuković and that he has no problem doing so again if it leads to a solution.
"We need to work on preventive measures and a systemic solution. Pollution seriously endangers people's health," Minić emphasized.
He said it is absurd to talk about banning the use of firecrackers or placing caps on chimneys as ways to reduce pollution.
"All activities should involve the Government so that the problem can be resolved in the long term. We are available and ready to act," Minić said.
