MILAN JELIĆ REMEMBERED 19 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH

MODRIČA, SEPTEMBER 30 /SRNA/ - The 19th anniversary of the death of former Republika Srpska President Milan Jelić was marked in Modriča today, with speakers describing him as a lasting symbol of dedication and patriotism.

Wreaths were laid at the City Cemetery by members of Jelić's family, Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan, Minister of Labor and Veterans and Disability Protection Radan Ostojić, SNSD club leader in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Sanja Vulić, representatives of the Municipality of Modriča and associations stemming from the Defensive-Patriotic War.

Speakers said Jelić was one of the most prominent and distinguished figures in the recent history of Republika Srpska.

They also emphasized his deep love of sport and young people, noting that his involvement in sports organizations left a lasting mark.

At Jelić's initiative, the Foundation of the President of Republika Srpska was established to enable the most talented students from Srpska to pursue further education at prestigious universities around the world. Since 2011, the foundation has borne the name "Dr Milan Jelić" in his honor.

"Milan Jelić will forever remain a symbol of dedication and patriotism" speakers said at today's commemoration in Modriča.

Milan Jelić, then president of Republika Srpska, businessman and politician, died on September 30, 2007.

Jelić was a university professor, held a doctorate in economics and was also active in sports.
