NOVI GRAD, JANUARY 9 /SRNA/ - On this January 9, Republic Day, a memorial service was held at the Lipa local cemetery in Svodna near Novi Grad in remembrance of the three Marčeta brothers, who lost their lives in the Defensive-Patriotic War.

The memorial service was officiated by Svodna parish priest Zoran Blagojević. A wreath was laid at the monument dedicated to the fallen Marčeta brothers, and candles were lit in their memory.

Dušan Marčeta was killed in 1991 on the Slavonian front, and two years later, on January 11, 1993, his brothers Drago and Boro were also killed at Suva Međa.

Their mother, Kristina Marčeta, who passed away on July 24, 2005, was awarded the Order of Miloš Obilić during her lifetime. Dušan and Drago were posthumously awarded the Medal of Merit for the People, while Boro was awarded the Order of Major Milan Tepić.

In addition to their father Radomir, mother Kristina, and the fallen brothers, the fourth son, Zoran Marčeta, was buried in August 2016.

In remembrance of the Marčeta brothers, a memorial five-a-side football tournament is held annually in Svodna.
